TBH I'm kinda confused why you did it in the first place if the bum had enough money for a 40- was he just too funky to go into any stores? At any rate if the same dude asks again, maybe offer to just give him a few bucks instead. And if you're comfortable enough, just be straight up and tell him that you're a sober alcoholic. If dude's got the shakes for a 40 of 211, he should be able to empathize.
You're writing about it because you recognize that it's a slippery slope, are understandably still a bit nervous about relapsing and presumably want some feedback. As usual, I hope I'm not coming off like a schoolmarm but as you know, I've got a good chunk of sobriety time (13 years next month) but before that I dealt with tons of relapses while going through rehab (outpatient program) and rationalizing things like this as "no big deal" is often what leads to them so again, it's good that you don't feel that way.
Anyway, hopefully it's just a harmless blip but if you ever find yourself in a similar situation and/or feel like the cravings are taking over, free to shoot me an email if you need to talk it out. Otherwise stay strong like Sam says.
