I'm grateful to see My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away on the list, and wish that they were higher. They're the only animated movies on the list, do other people find it weird that there is no Disney animation represented at all? They're also family movies, and they would fit your average person's idea of popular, accessible entertainment. There are very few non-American movies on the list that you can say that about.
I'm happy to see Close-up as the highest ranked Kiarostami.
It would have been nice if this "more inclusive" list introduced me to some foreign genre films that weren't on my radar, but I barely even American movies in that vein, especially if they're not directed by Hitchcock. How could this list still not include Cat People? On the other hand, fans of modern CGI blockbusters will feel the same way, and I'm glad that none of those movies made the cut (I didn't think they would, but I've been wrong in the past).
Curious to know whether people think Get Out and Moonlight are reasonable choices. I liked both of them well enough, but I dunno about putting them on this list.
Speaking of movies that I liked but wouldn't include, when I looked at discussions anticipating the list, one of the movies in a number of people's "how high will this modern classic climb" category was There Will Be Blood, which is absent. It was 75 in the Directors' poll last time.
I also saw alot of people predicting that Mad Max: Fury Road would make the poll, which is silly.
I'm shocked to see so little love for Mizoguchi. 75 for Sansho the Bailiff and 90 for Ugetsu in the critics poll, and nothing in the directors poll for either? Kurosawa and Ozu are both in the top 20 in both polls.
