I think the consensus is definitely that Fury Road is better than The Road Warrior. Granted, some of that may be that it's got explicit feminist themes and some of that may be that people are squeamish about Mel Gibson. But for what it's worth, having only seen Road Warrior for the first time a couple months ago, I'd agreed - they're very similar movies plot-wise but Fury Road has more exciting action scenes, more production values, and better developed characters I'd say.
