Regarding Mel Gibson
Whatever squeamishness people still have about him (and man, it really has lasted--the sugart*ts incident was 16 years ago! Only Paul Reubens' shame has lasted longer) I do know that the old Mad Max films are still really popular, or at least TRW is (Thunderdome seems to have declined a bit, despite having been a big hit in 1985.) They certainly keep finding new viewers. There does not seem to be anywhere near as much nostalgia for Lethal Weapon--I see loads of 80s nostalgia for most other franchises from back then but LW seems a bit absent these days. It would seem as though Mel is now best known for Braveheart (even though I hate it), The Road Warrior and Passion Of The Christ.
