Because I didn't even realize that stiff-person syndrome is a bowdlerized stiff-man syndrome. That actually makes it much more bearable to hear, as the former disease name was a throwback to the plain-spoken, earthier terminology that's steadily fallen out of fashion in the last century, and if it has to be bastardized to save it, then I'll take a "stiff-person syndrome".
