I had a bit of a monkey paw situation with Bjork because I got into her not long before Vespertine came out, and I thought "what would be great is if she gave the pop and dance beats a rest and did a full on artsy ethereal album. And then she did Vespertine which was exactly that, and it was great!
But then that was pretty much *all* she did from there on out, and she lost interest in mainstream appeal so much it gets pretty hard to tell the difference between a good or bad later Bjork song.
With the jazz idea, it's not exactly what you're describing but check out the live bootlegs of her Brodsky Quartet shows cos they're really great:
