I'm used to seeing Wayne with a cowboy hat on so I've never thought about how he was balding. I did find it odd that such a right-wing guy wasn't religious though.
I'll just use this as an opportunity to say that the interview with Ford on the Criterion Stagecoach is one of the best special features on any DVD ever.
