It's not really a documentary in the proper sense, but what's there is great. What makes is superfluous? The fact that you can watch it in pieces on youtube?
Re The Who in general, did you say recently that you thought all the post-Quadrophenia stuff was about equal? I relistened to the late 70s early 80s albums that I never played much (so all of them but Who Are You) and those post-Moon albums are really bad. Face Dances is the better of the two, but sounds less like The Who.
Empty Glass is really good, and All the Best Cowboys is at least okay, so I have to wonder whether Townsend even cared what those Who albums sounded like as long as they had singles that were acceptable enough to hook in the hardcore fans.
I'd like to comment on 8 1/2 but I haven't seen it in forever. I should rewatch that at least in the next year.
I'm glad I don't remember Sur La Mere well enough to say anything besides that it sucks and is dated. I think my brain is better off without having memories of that polluting it.
I knew the orchestral Out of Time before the other version, not from Metamorphosis but from the singles collection, but I far prefer the one without the orchestra. I know that Metamorphosis has a version of Memo From Turner on it, but the one on the singles collection is better.
I guess it's uncertain whether Keith and Charlie play on the Metamorphosis version, and the one on the singles collection is really a Jagger solo song from the soundtrack of the movie Performance. The Performance version is great, and probably has my favorite work from Ry Cooder on it.
