In general, poetry has been greatly degraded in English. Poetics have inspired their own branch of linguistics (prosody) and traditionally have represented the highest form not just of literature but of arts generally.
I had something else to say but I've forgotten. Then I remembered, then I looked at the TV. It was the Daily Double. I got it. The contestant did not. Then I forgot what I had remembered with such triumph.
I'd better quit while I'm ahead.
