Music Babble

One of the first poets I read (became interested via his association with Dali) and I was generally underwhelmed. A lot of his imagery comes off as fairly unimaginative IMO. I could see why Dali dug him- a lot of it sounds like he's simply describing one of the latter's paintings (and I love Dali but that's not what I want from poetry). But part of me wonders if I just wasn't used to poetry in general and would have a different impression today (though I first read Rimbaud around the same time and loved him immediately).

Tried Stevens but he was a bit too philosophical for my taste for lack of a better term. Also seems like one of those writers who never writes without their thesaurus or word of the day calendar.

Part of the Mayakovsky collection I have is dedicated to a statical sci-fi play called "The Bedbug" which is enjoyable in its own right but I would have preferred more of his poetry. So might need to pick up another collection because he's quite good. Would like to read more Russian poetry in general TBH.
