I'd try Shelley if you like Blake - at least I think they're similar in their stance that poetry and political thought go hand in hand. Shelley was probably also the biggest influence on the Beats, who I know you like, of the bunch.

I recently came to the conclusion that I'm never going to read any of the longer Blake poems (sorry, "prophecies") and ditched my Collected Works from him. I've got Marriage Of Heaven And Hell which is great, I just need a copy of Songs Of Experience and then I'll be set.
