All I would have been basing that on (I had forgotten saying it) were legendary didaster productions like Apocalypse Now and The Cotton Club, which came out the same year as Dune.

At the very least it would have been bizarre to see him do that right after two quickly made SE Hinton teen films starring Matt Dillon, who I bet he would have tried to cast as Paul, agggh. Hey, howzabout the wrecked Dennis Hopper from 1984 as the Baron huh? Or maybe the emperor!!
