Jeez, glad you're at least on your feet - hope you get that kidney before too long. Or, who knows, one of those artificial kidneys scientists are working on.

I haven't heard enough Philly Soul, but I played Wake Up Everybody by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes the other day and enjoyed it (great album cover too). "Nights Over Egypt" by the Jones Girls and "This Can't Be True" by Eddie Holman are a couple songs I love that I think are considered part of the subgenre.

I loved True Grit but found Norwood totally forgettable, so that jives with your rankings. I think I have your #2/3 books on my longass list of stuff to maybe read eventually.
