The general idea is that it was west of Spain, but some doof went on Joe Rogan's show or podcast or whatever to claim he thinks the Richat Structure (the "eye of Africa" in Mauritania) is Atlantis, and it's also been widely believed that some part of the story comes from the huge catastrophic Minoan-civilization-destroying eruption at Santorini/Thera where they keep changing the date. That eruption, which was supposed to be 100 times more powerful than Pompeii, was 1628 BC when I was in college and now the date 1646 BC or 1500 BC is thrown around a lot.

Of course, the whole thing depends on Plato conversing with Solon to learn stories that have been passed down ORALLY for nine or ten thousand years. Yyyyyeeeaahhhh....that's gonna be one damn crazy game of telephone along that line.

They also keep changing what's going to destroy the West Coast, have you noticed? For ages it was the San Andreas fault, then it was the overdue eruption of Yellowstone's underground volcano, now it's the "Cascadian Subduction Zone" which MUST cause a Pacific Northwest destroying superquake.
