Muck tried to use the Mayan Calendar before such a thing was popular and apparently got the date wrong anyway, I've read it should've been 8293 BC and not 8498 BC.
I guess something could still happen with the San Andreas fault. As for the supervolcano, saying things like "we're 20,000 years overdue for an eruption" is pretty lame fearmongering on the part of people who do that--uh, yeah, the entirety of human civilization could fit in there, y'know? The Cascadian Subduction Zone thing is a real worrier though:
