Music Babble

I was surprised to recently learn that although Joe Camel was introduced in France in 1974, he didn't appear in the U.S. until 1988. I assumed he'd been around for decades, not that he appeared in American media within my memory. So he was actually around in American less than 10 years.

I remember begging my mom to let me save this magazine adverstisement (the one I had was a pop-up, it doesn't look like it is in this picture)



because it had pyramids in it and I liked pyramids and mummies, and she said that I could have it but I had to understand that the meaning of the advertisement was that cigarettes killed you, which was why they were being associated with famous tombs.
