2) The Move/Roy Wood - Perhaps the most major '60s rock act not in yet, and never will be, even though ELO are already in.
3) Status Quo - I only care for their two '60s psych hits and find the rest of their career unimaginative third-rate CCR boogie, but they racked up a LOT of hits in the U.K.
4) The Jam/Paul Weller - Legends in England, cult artist in the U.S. because he's even more parochially British than the Kinks. Deserves to get in more than anybody on my list, but never will. Britpop bands like Blur and Oasis that followed in his footsteps will get in before the Modfather.
5) The Stranglers - One of the most commercially successful "punk" bands, with more than 20 hits. Put that in quotes because like the Police they only jumped on the punk bandwagon for three years before morphing into a smooth hit making pop machine. Like the Damned, the punk era name became something of an albatross as it no longer reflected their more radio friendly pop. Even if "Golden Brown" gets a revival in a major TV show, these guys choke on it.
6)Madness, the Specials - Second-wave ska wasn't big until frat-boy third-wave ska hit the U.S. with Sublime et al in the '90s.
7) Nick Lowe, Ian Dury, Graham Parker, Dr. Feelgood - None of these guys are named Elvis Costello, the only British pub-rocker who's ever getting in. Next!
8) The Smiths - They'll get in. Eventually.
9)Mott the Hoople, Slade, Sweet - T. Rex is in and covers the glam-rock quota. Gary Glitter had one massive U.S. hit but he ain't going nowhere near the HOF for obvious reasons.
10) The Fall - Yes, they had hits, believe it or not, and are well known in the UK. And they certainly qualify as majorly influential. Will they ever get in? HA HA HA HA HA
11) Stone Roses, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Crappy Mondays, bla bla bla - Shoegaze and Madchester never really crossed the pond. Nope. And their lead singer still looks and dances like a monkey.
12)XTC - Had some U.S. hits, critical darlings. They have a mild shot. Let me stress MILD.
13) Buzzcocks - See The Fall, above. Wire - same.
14) Motorhead - They aren't in already?!
15) OMD, Depeche Mode, the Eurythmics, the Human League, Talk Talk, and so on and so forth - Well, if New Order get in, there's some hope for other '80s synth-pop bands.
