I thought it was The Turtles that sued them
although I wouldn't be surprised if the sampling on "3 Feet High" resulted in other legal issues for De La. Know that was the case with "Paul's Boutique"- apparently it kept The Beasties paying royalties long after the album's release. Yeah folks were naive about sampling in the late 80's but I remember hearing that when Mike D. created the loop for "Sound of Science", one of The Dust Bros told him "Mike, you can't do that- it's the ####ing *Beatles*". To which he replied "Yeah but what's cooler than being sued by The Beatles?" Sup Jersh. Yeah it's kinda ridiculous that Babble is still around but as you can tell, there's hardly anyone left from the old days. Your posts were often good for a chuckle so I'm tempted to tell you to stick around but IIRC you have a kid and most other Babblers who went that route understandably stopped posting. Pretty sure Joe H. is the only current Babbler with a kid and he doesn't post very often. Anyway hope all is good.
