About "Fawlty Towers" (re: below)
I recently rewatched the series, as promised, and didn't really like it much more than I did last year. The German-episode ending sequence is still hilarious and the episode with the American guy whining about the Waldorf salad is interesting because both he and Basil are depicted as being rude egomaniacs, but aside from that I still find it to be a very two-note show, Basil being smarmy or Basil flipping out.
It may be that it's just really hard to appreciate the show for a newcomer because it's no doubt influenced so many things since, including several remakes of the actual series around the world. But that didn't happen with All In The Family which is not only fascinatingly un-PC and a document of its time but is also still really funny.
