I quit coffee for many years when I quit drinking (mostly because I also quit smoking cigarettes and like most smokers, I had a strong association between cigarettes and coffee) and though it was actually harder than I expected at first (not just a question of being tired- it felt like the conduits in my brain had been severed), I got used to being coffee-free. Then I started only drinking it on vacation and nowadays I also drink it on weekends, partly because that's when I see my gf (she lives in Oakland) and she's obsessed with coffee.
Re: acid reflex, there are certain foods and beverages that can irritate it (although in my experience it's mostly caused by stress) but carbonated beverages are the one thing the doctor told me to just cut out entirely. And since I'd already quit drinking beer, hadn't really had soda since high school and never been a fan of sparkling water, it was no biggie.
