George leaving the board had to do with people from LiveJournal at the F*** You Crew posting under a fake account with his name on it (replete with fake lists of favorite albums for those people to sneer at) and getting an email inbox full of slop because of it.
In retrospect, this would be kind of hard to explain to future generations.
