I use nestopia, but I don't have an opinion on whether it's better, that's just what's on my computer. But I can tell you that it runs 50 time better than the NES games released on Steam, which is funny.
I played through Faxanadu a few weeks ago. Good game, and nothing that was that hard to figure out without a guide.
