5 stars:
Live at Woodstock (best live album ever IMO and my 2nd Hendrix release after "Ladyland"- 2 disc version's obviously the way to go)
4.5 stars:
South Saturn Delta (killer rarities collection with both The Experience and The Band of Gypsys, ridiculously underrated)
BBC Sessions (despite stiff competition, probably the best BBC session ever- go back and forth between this one and Soft Machine's "BBC Radio: 1967-1971")
Live at Winterland (epic set with an amazing setlist featuring The Experience really stretching out)
Live in Maui (the backstory's pretty interesting and considering how much the odds were against this being a good set, this is truly an inspiring triumph)
Blues (the unimaginative title doesn't do it justice- good amount of variety here and Hendrix's best soloing was often during blues numbers)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience (box set with some gems alongside alternate takes that aren't very different from the original versions so not everything's for casual fans but still definitely worth checking out)
4 stars:
Jimi Plays Monterey (kind of like a superhero who's still trying to figure out how to use their powers which makes it interesting but also a tad overrated- just watch the footage)
Live at the Fillmore East (practically makes "Band of Gypsys" redundant, featuring superior versions of most songs on that set and additional songs that are also better than anything on "BoG")
First Rays of the New Rising Sun (not as consistent as the Experience albums and no way to know how close this is to what he would have released if he'd lived but there's quite a few really good tracks)
Band of Gypsys (as I said, sorta stands in the shadow of "Fillmore East" and BoG obviously aren't as good as The Experience but still a solid set of Hendrix at his most soul-infused)
Valleys of Neptune (2010 odds n' sods collection that actually manages to be interesting and even surprising at times)
At Last... The Beginning: The Making of Electric Ladyland - The Early Takes (as someone who considers "Ladyland" Jimi's finest moment, this is pretty interesting but casual fans might get bored)
Jimi Hendrix & Traffic - A Session (bootleg featuring jazzy backup which inspires Hendrix to go places he usually didn't- should revisit it myself actually)
Machine Gun: The Fillmore East First Show 12/31/69 (full BoG show, you pretty much know what you're getting if you've heard the other 2 sets)
Live at Berkeley (one of the better live sets from the Mitchell and Cox lineup)
Atlanta '70 (better than "Isle of Wight" and from around the same period but you can still tell that Jimi's tired of these songs)
3.5 stars:
West Coast Seattle Boy (hidden gems but it's a box set with a lot of barrel scrapings so proceed with caution)
Live at the Isle of Wight (never heard Jimi sound less inspired- he actually says he's "starting the concert over" at one point- and the fact that not was such a huge show makes it extra depressing)
Both Sides of the Sky (barrel scrapings but the occasional highlight like the version of "Woodstock" with Stills on vox)
People, Hell and Angels (weird experiments that some might find interesting but definitely barrel scrapings)
