So this inspired me using my best recordings of all time list/spreadsheet. I could calculate the best year in music by assessing the year of music with the same criteria as I do artist (ie. Ranked via a formula to work out artist rating, top 3 recordings and then quantity of descending album/recording ratings)
In terms of years
I used album release date, live album/bootlegs using recording date. Essential compilations I generally do the year of the latest recorded song. So the release "Complete Sister Rosetta Tharpe Volume 1 1938-1943" is credited to 1943. Unfortunately there really isn't a great solution to this and excluding compilations would be too time consuming/
I have to admit the 1 star and 0 stars are probably reflection of my ignorance and not hearing enough music that year.
