In classical music they basically judge the ability of the composer to merge disperate/diverse musical themes and make it sound seamless. After my extended classical music binge and returning to pop music, almost every extended suite either by pop or even prog musician sounds sloppy in comparison.
I think only Genesis Musical Box and Mike Oldfield Ommadawn Part 1 that are extended suite sounds like coherent music. However I feel I sort of have to accept the sloppiness because there is limited examples of things done well to compare it to.
Collaborations Don't Work is no different in sounding like musical fragments squashed together.
However in the context of musical fragments squashed together its pretty great in the sense I enjoy each musical fragments
