"Face To Face" is a grower for sure
I've previously described it as The Kinks' "Rubber Soul" but maybe "Revolver" is a better comparison. Sure, it's not nearly as good or consistent as those 2 but it's a transitional album with innovative, psych-tinged material like "Sunny Afternoon" (strong contender for their best song), "Little Miss Queen of Darkness" and "Rosy Won't You Please Come Home" rubbing up against stuff that seems similar to what they'd previously done (which is especially glaring on side 2 of "Revolver"). But like the Beatles albums, the more you listen to "face To Face", the more you learn to appreciate each song for what it is and realize that the variety/scope is one of the album's biggest strengths.
