I think the "Quadrilogy" is the newer version. The new copies of that on Amazon didn't have the two bonus discs, that I think they stopped making.

In the extended cut, it's over an hour before the meet the aliens, but from the facehuggers in the medlab to the end that's something like 40 or 45 minutes, and that whole section is a roller coaster ride. You don't get that many good looks at the aliens when they have the initial engagement, and alot of that part is Ripley and Hicks looking at bad camera footage or listening to audio of what's going on. I think that works, because then the movie still has more to show us when the get to the final stretch of action.

Yeah, and that scene makes no dramatic sense. It's played like there's supposed to be suspense over whether an alien is going to pop out of her chest during the autopsy, but we already know that the alien is in the dog!
