Music Babble

Since I just moved to Oakland this past week. Yeah it’s mostly to move in with my gf but that article definitely highlights a few conditions which have made it easier to leave. I’ve struggled with the stay vs leave debate for quite awhile just like all SF natives the past decade or so, during which many of us have left in a mass exodus (most common destinations seem to be the east bay, Vegas, Portland and Austin).

I still love SF for a lot of reasons but it’s substantially different from what I grew up with and many of the changes are truly heartbreaking. And being in tech makes me feel like I’ve been sleeping with the enemy. Anyway during the 2.5 years my gf and I have been together, Oakland has grown on me quite a bit. Again, a lot of other SF natives are here, especially artists and other folks who don’t prioritize money over all else. So it sorta feels like “the real SF” in some ways. It’s also typically 10 degrees warmer than SF which is a huge plus for a reptile like me.

My family is still in SF and own property there so I’ll always have a connection to the city but am really looking forward to this relocation- been going great so far!
