Planned economies and societies have traditionally always been worse off, *because the planning sucked*.
Free societies are based on the general public accepting that more-or-less-fairly rewarding the best *of* humanity is ultimately what is best *for* humanity, and this has more or less been validated in the last 150 years.
If AI modeling flips the script and can produce a planned path forward that gives a competitive advantage to the nation-state that is quickest to follow it, then dictatorships/oligarchies are best positioned to reap these rewards. And, if the rewards come, it validates the model. At the end of the day, the average Joe just wants security and enough creature comforts; the stuff learned in civics class is just window-dressing.
