Re: Is this really unrelated or
It just seems like bashing corporate America is a relic of the 1950s and 60s, was AB really saying anything new in 1999? Or that its 50s-60s forbears (Rabbit, Run; Revolutionary Road, etc.) didn't do better? But if the movie wanted to trick you into thinking you were supposed to root for Spacey to do all that rebellious Oscar bait crap, then pull the rug out from under you with the cheerleader twat getting scared (which was barely a convincing scene) then it failed--I'd have thought there be a greater chance that Fight Club stick with Durden's message instead of rejecting him than that Spacey actually bonk the skirt. I dunno about forgotten -- there was a documentary recently released about Jim Carrey's nutso method acting on the set (that infamously got him slapped for real by Jerry Lawler) but Man On The Moon seemed to get a lot of great reviews out of the gate, which then faded when the film didn't make money and when Jim Carrey didn't even get nominated for Best Actor even though that was his obvious dream project. Never saw Existenz, it's one of the Cronenbergs that I missed.
