I forgot to watch that video last night when I could actually listen to sound, but re: how different are IV-VI, here's the item screen from IV:

I liked that the earlier games had more primitive maps that only filled in as you explored (also from #V)
so things change over time, but they're more tweaks.
If I remember right, this streamlined building screen is new the 2010's era. That's probably the biggest change
Back in the day, it was easier to build shit characters because you had no idea what you were doing. Here's the Exile III stat screen
The Exile games also had way more spells, sometimes either overpowered or useless! These are only 4 of 7 levels
I don't think Exile was unique in having too many ability categories. The 1980s Fallout predecessor Wasteland has all these:
