Two things really stood out to me as odd during bracket play. First, the games were only 60 minutes long. Seems short, but I get it with the weather. The second oddity has to be one of the dumbest rules I’ve ever seen incorporated into a softball tournament. Bracket games weren’t finish the inning, they were drop dead. Nonsense, but that’s not the worst of it. At drop dead, if an inning hasn’t been completed, they revert the score back to the previous inning’s and start international tiebreaker rules.
So this poor team breaks a tie and takes the lead in the top half of the last inning. They go out to finish up the game, get two outs, then are told that regulation game time has ended and the go ahead runs they just scored don’t count.
WTF kind of cockamamie BS is that. A team plays their heart out in a close, hard fought game to go ahead and they don’t even finish the inning. Total nonsense. The team that went ahead ended up “losing”.
Is this idiotic tournament rule structure the norm for these types of C level tournaments? Who in their right mind would ever dole out team funds to play in one of these? How does a TD ever think that this set up is good for the game of softball?
