Re: Parent Coach Good or Bad
There probably are some out there that do a good job, but that is not typical especially the older they get. It starts out fine at the younger age groups, but as the inch towards high school and then college, no matter how hard you try, if your goal or your daughters goal is to make X team, you will do what you can to help make that happen just like all the parents watching and not coaching are trying to help their daughter. Daddy ball coaches have that upper hand and will do what they can to make their daughter shine, even if it’s not what is best for the team. My daughter experienced this when looking to get recruited, no matter what she did or how she played, the coaches kid was always, always out there. It made my daughter frustrated many times, but she quickly learned how this world works, politics. Daddy ball coaches give a little more and bend more for their kid and possibly the other coaches kid more than they do for the other girls. Not an excuse, but it’s probably natural instinct. It’s one thing if the talent level is close to the same on the team, but if it isn’t, the parent needs to step away and let their kid be them without the help of a parent coach, and if the other girls on the team are noticing, then the daughters know it too, they just aren’t admitting it or don’t care.
