Just not true. My daughter’s freshman year there was a freshman girl who made varsity and started that was on no one’s radar. She killed it at tryouts. Parents who think this way generally have unrealistic views of their own child’s talent or think that hitting well against JV pitching would translate to hitting well against division I prospects throwing at the varsity level in powerhouse programs like Marist. I’m sure this isn’t the case all the time because there are bad coaches out there but for the most part when you look at things objectively it’s mostly the case
