Public school softball team success is a combination of genetics and geography. It also changes your perception of what a successful player is. My youngest played with five DI recruits in high school, and there were a couple of kids from "B" level programs who were their equals or just a tick behind. I'm not saying that's the norm, but some great athletes could beat out more experienced travel athletes.
