Re: OPRF Sectional
This is an annual gripe at the start of every post season made mostly by the parents of the stronger teams in HS. The IHSA doesn't have an RPI style rating system State-wide for all of the divisions. They really don't care to track the strongest to weakest teams every year. Unfortunately, they look at W/L records and geographical ease. Every year some of the strongest teams in the state have to play each other eliminating teams who should have the right to compete at the State Tournament. If they had an RPI type system the strongest teams would end up spread around the State. Something not feasible in HS. The system is what it is. It hamstrings the strongest teams while giving weaker teams and advantage. If you can come up with something that is equitable for all the teams let the IHSA know and see if you can get it implemented. When there were only 2 divisions for softball Chicago would have a separate postseason tournament and the winner went to the State Tournament. They were essentially a 1st round bye for the team who drew them. I don't think they ever won a game at the tournament. Most of the times they were run-ruled.
