Slapping probably changes everything, but my kid always swung a 34 -10 in travel and High School, pretty successfully, and went P4. They switched her down to a 33 -10 almost immediately. Felt like the bat speed helped.

Confidence is everything in hitting, and if they don't feel like they can get a bat on everything, it kills their hitting.
