You Never Know What Sticks

I coached a young lady for several years and she was fortunate enough (and worked her butt off) to play and start all four years at a Big Ten program recently. She was the type of leader who just led naturally - great at any sport she tried and just a fantastic attitude. She graduated this past year and one day soon after, a package arrived at my house. Inside was a note from her - I hadn't coached her in five years, but had seen her play once or twice a year in college. The note said thank you and conveyed that she wouldn't have been able to do what she did without me. This in itself touched my heart. And wouldn't you know, attached to the note was the glove she used her entire sophomore year. If you coach, and you don't think your former players will think about you later on, you just may be surprised.
