College athletics, as we know it, will be gone in our lifetime. The courts are changing everything that made them unique and turning them into another pro league that won't be able to coexist with an educational institution. The first to go, once they're separate from the university, will be women's sports once Title IX is no longer a factor.

It does seem to be headed in that direction, but I think it will be a while. I could see a separate for-profit athletic corporation that licenses the school's name and only participates in sports that show a profit. Let's face it soon enough the conferences will supersede the NCAA as a sanctioning body.
