The first step is getting on the right travel team with the relationships, which can be seen from current and past players.

Next, make list, send emails, film, state why you want to go there, and hit some camps. If they aren't taking any measurables or running some live scrimmages attending is a waste.

DI covers an incredibly wide range of talent levels. P4 is one thing, but other conferences have way fewer talented athletes.

That is a open ended question. Does the player value softball over getting a degree in 4 years? Very difficult depending on major and the program in some cases to graduate in 4 years. Does the player actually like the particular school or feel comfortable with the coaching staff or feel comfortable at the particular school or is the player being influenced by parents and others in the softball world to play D1 because they assume everything is better at D1? Does the specific school have a need that the player fills for that graduate class? Another part to that question is what does it take to get recruited to a D1 or what does it take to be on the team for 4 years? It is interesting to see how many players go to a D1 school and transfer within 2 years or stop playing. Especially when you find out a decent percentage of those players that transfer end up going to D2, D3, or NAIA schools and having great experience. After being around the game for a good bit of time I find that the answer has many elements to it. Just work with you player, listen to what they really want, see what colleges are interested in them, play at an organization that actually plays in the top tournaments and the question will answer itself if you focus on the right things.

That's a lot of words. If you can play P4, you do. Economics factor in but if it works, P4 and the academia falls into place with an awareness graduate school, if you care to differentiate oneself in the marketplace, becomes a must. If economics don't work, or can't go P4, for Lords sake, go to a mid major that is academically, let's say, top 50%, at least. After that, reread "Perspective". Good luck!

I know young ladies that have gotten engineering degrees playing D1 P4 at a very respected engineering college in 4 years. Most of the young ladies in my daughters program graduate in 4 yeats. It definitely requires taking summer classes but it is achievable. The naysayers do not have practical experience and most of what they believe comes from heresy. D1 P4 requires a player to have talent, mental toughness, organization and a true love of the game. I have also been around the game and seen just as many, if not more girls quit D2, D3 and NAIA schools. The player must make sacrifices in order to play any level of ball, if they do not wish to make the sacrifices they simply will not make it.

I've been searching for the stats on DI players that leave that level and go on to DII, III, or NAIA and play. Can you point me in the right direction?

I have wondered if anyone keeps track of that. I wonder because when I watch d2,d3 and naia game there seems to be more transfer players from d1 schools then you would think. I would be very interested in the actual number or percentage.

Way to not answer the question, feels like a presidential debate.

We get it, your daughter(s) can't play DI softball, and you have a million reasons why all DI players are throwing away their academic and employment opportunities. I'm sure your kids are killing it with their NAIA BA degree, student loan debt, and the ability to lean on that 114-member alumni network.
