College coaches and Twitter

I have a DD who is committed D1 but not signed yet. Very thankful for her opportunity, but I would not want to go through another summer of all the BS with Twitter… who is following, who is liking, who is DMing camp info…

For those of you entering that phase, good luck!

But, it’s been so interesting on the other side of her commitment to see how many coaches dropped following her.

Good reminder that some coaches are transactional and some are relational - so do your homework!

My daughter doesn’t have any hurt feelings, or do I, but it is interesting. Especially in the era of the portal, if you really “like” a kid, why do you stop following her on X?

And some coaches and administrators are transactional with who they want to be and relational with others. That's called Hypocrisy.

As to the last question, there are coaches that are vindictive. The college game is not in a good place. Best wishes for all the players.

Committed and not signed, you should know better. This leads to the post that says, "I am re-opening my recruiting." You don't commit to school in public or social media until the ink is dry on the page!!

I actually struck up a convo with an asst coach about this once at a tourney. She showed me how she used Twitter lists for every recruiting year with positions. She had 25 pitchers,
25 catchers, 25 middles, etc. Sorta blew my mind how organized she was and the number of kids they tracked on Twitter. I bet she’s still doing it today for kids in college, for portal reasons.

So who knows, they may still be “watching” your kid.

How would you possibly get the information necessary to determine if a player is recruiting worthy?

So most college coaches have say 75-100 prospects per class year. If a coach has 4 years of 4 classes how many people do you really think they can continued to follow? Seems like you think a college coaches is a high school kid living in their phone instead of coaching and having a life.

It seems a little presumptuous to feel that every coach interested in your daughter's talent wanted a lifelong friendship and mentor opportunity. Being a college coach is a job; players are transitionary pieces in the overall machine.

Very true. But if I’m in charge of a roster, and players can come and go every year, I don’t close any doors. I give myself every chance to grab a girl in a year or three if they’re open to transfer

Maybe they lost interest and didn't feel she could play at their level.
