ISHA Playoffs

Please, oh please, gods of IHSA… let’s get rid of this NBA like system that gives everyone a playoff spot. No need to drag this out during final exams and well beyond. Take conference winners and a regional wild card. #MakeConferencesGreatAgain

(And while you’re at it… get rid of honorable and special mentions… #MakeAllStarsRealAgain.)

I agree about the honorable mention and special mention... or 6th place ribbons for that matter. I followed a small sample of "all-conference" athletes already during the regional run... When it came down to the game their team got eliminated in, the sample of (11) players all went 0 for the game zero base hits out of 11 All Conference selections? WOW, So are they the BEST player on a horrible team? There has to be a better way to evaluate this? It is like letting a player's parent run your gamechanger in high school.

High School sports aren't just for the best of the best. It's the last opportunity the vast majority of athletes will compete, and if they're happy, I'm happy. You may want to check yourself if you care enough to pull stats. I'm guessing your offspring wasn't a recipient of any accolades, which instigates your creepy behavior.

All conferences aren't created equal. This has worked for quite a while, leave it alone. Why do you care about a list? Just don't look if it offends your condescending opinions.

Totally agree MCM - too many blowouts in the first round. How many real upsets were there? and of those upset winners, how much will they be blown out by in the next round?

It's nothing to do with conferences. HS Softball in general is a joke. The playoff system is a bigger joke. There were pitchers pitching yesterday that were equivalent of 8U - pitchers. For real. 16 walks and 5 HBP in 4 innings in one game. The funny part is the GC person was counting all the passed balls as "stolen bases" for that particular game.

14 walks and 7 HBP in another game. A team that had won 2 games all year winning a game 28-2?
They are better off having these games with coach pitch or maybe a pitching machine?

It's all sports, softball isn't unique to talent differences. There are a few really good teams, some good teams, and many bad ones.

IHSA football only allows +/- half of the teams into the playoffs, and it's blowouts everywhere, including many times in the semi's/championship games.
