DI Coaches

Are there many local Chicago kids coaching at a DI level? If so, where? It might help in getting recruited if they know where you're coming from. Do many transition from travel coaching to NCAA positions? I'm guessing there were a few Bandits assistants.

Jeff Tylka started his coaching career at Antioch High School. He’s now an assistant/hitting coach at Virginia.

When he beat my brains in at the high school level I was aware that not only did he have more talent than me, but he got more out of that talent than I would have.

Nah... Tylka was simply a terrible recruiter. I know of many D1 mid-major and Power 5 players that expressed interest to go to Loyola and he didn't even take the time to look at them. Almost all of these players had stellar careers and would have helped turn Loyola into a winner. He missed on many, many local kids and led Loyola to losing seasons.

DePaul: Liz Bouck-Jagielski (played there)
Wisconsin: Yvette Healey (former Bandit)
Ole Miss: Nancy Evans (lived in area for long time)
Loyola: Alicia Abbott (from New Lenox)
UIC: new coach has been in the area for a long time
NIU: Kathryn Gleason played at Marian Catholic
NKU: Morgan Gerak played for Wasco and NW

If you include HC and Asst Coaches, there are lots of D1 coaches from the area...

But best bet is to develop your skills and find a good team fit.

Yvette Healey (former Bandit), I don’t think so. I don’t believe the Bandits were around yet.

Although she does recruit heavily from the Bandits and Chill.

Healey needs to go. Program has gone nowhere under her direction.

Believe it or not she could have had a nice WCWS run some years ago but because the 2 kids didnt play for power programs weren't recruited (both became AA one at Drake, one at Oregon).

I think she's learned from that kind of, IMO a lot of schools in the midwest focus on specific club programs which I understand, and understand the relationships and trust, actually a lot of schools do the same, but when you have camps to not get numbers on every kid walking through those doors for every camp is asinine.

This can be said for a lot of Big Ten programs to have home state kids leave the state to other P4 conferences and not even get a visit - offer to that home state school is insane.

The Head Coach at Loyola is Alicia Abbott. Daughter of Jim, long-time Lightning guy.
