Playing Time

What's the right balance between playing time and competition for a position? It's easy to say competition is what the college coaches are looking for, but it's absolutely pointless for part of your roster who'll probably never see the field or have a chance to improve if you're always playing the best. Is it just tough shit for the seat fillers?

If she never plays, it’s obvious you should leave. No jersey name gets a kid recruited if they never play. But after that, there are just too many variables to give a good answer to this question.

It all depends on the age. But one thing is always true, you have to EARN playing time, it is not given unless your 12u or under.

Want to play the field? HIT the ball. It's the same every year, someone complains because the kid that is better and batting .490 gets the start over theirs. GO FIGURE. With more B and C teams than ever, it's never been easier to look like a superstar when you're playing below your level. But don’t mistake dominance over weaker competition for actual development.
