Purely Softball

If you had to choose between the non-P4 state schools, purely for softball, which one? Just looking for opinions, primarily based on the coaching staff.

Western
Eastern
Northern
Illinois State

For those who have watched a lot of both, would a school like Illinois Wesleyan be able to compete in the MAC or Horizon? I tend to think they would, but I'm curious to hear what others think.

Completely agree. Recruiting isn't an exact science; kids want and need academically, bad actor parents, kids put on physical size, etc., but for the most part, kids that get recruited mid-major were better travel, high school players than DII recruits. What would change collegiately?

My D played with a D2 player who was better than other mid-major teammates.

I think a few schools could compete. Illinois Wesleyan is always really good, Augustana is becoming a power very quickly with the new coach, and Millikin usually has good teams. The only difference might be if they have the pitching.
