All HS ball is trash. Between the schools that don’t roster varsity based on merit but rather seniority or politics to the overall lack of talent up and down the lineup, there is nothing worth watching. We’ve gotten to a point where making varsity means absolutely nothing anymore.

It would be pretty funny if the same people who tell us how crappy high school varsity softball is had to go watch JV games.

The same people who are good at travel are good at HS. You just get surprised by the players who don't play on a "high-level team," and it turns out they're solid.

At this point, you might as well use Claude to spin up a website and rank yourself. Couldn’t be any worse than Extra Innings - they are the worst. (Line Drive Media a close second.)

Alliance does a great job with their stat leaders. D1 Softball is well regarded at the college level.

MaxPreps at least *tries*. They use HS stats to inform their opinions, but in the case of their #1 team and player in IL this year they whiffed. (Not taking anything away from the talent that is there, but it’s not the best in IL, and not on the radar nationally.)

MaxPreps choice for best player in Illinois heading into the season is at least a decent one, if not the right one. She was the primary pitcher on the team that won the 4A state title and is a 2026 P4 commit.

Not sure how MaxPreps decided on the Wisconsin choice though. She does happen to be a 2027 P4 commit, but not sure how you go from a 2025 high school season with a .473/.524/.797 slash line, 4 HR, 31 RBI, and striking out 12 times in 21 games as the team's starting shortstop to the best player in the state heading into this season.
