Exit Interviews

I'm assuming college players have an annual "exit interview"; are coaches honest when assessing players' futures? If your kid crapped the bed as a freshman, will they tell you they're going to recruit for your position? Just wondering if this ever happens.

You may not be told outright that you have no spot. Some P4 agreements are written that you have four years no matter what…

But if they tell you that you’re not gonna see the field, what kid will want to stick around?

And that’s when you hit the portal.

By the time exit interviews are happening, the recruiting class for the next year should already be set. I'd think you're going to have to read between the lines with most coaches as they will most likely try and put a positive spin on it, but also give you areas that you need to work on.

Do you think most college programs recruit based on need, or just the best athletes?
