Quite a few tennis programs have been terminated at schools, including Arkansas and Illinois State. Schools are looking at the financial burden of a program and reallocating the money to Football, Basketball, etc. Not sure if any sports are completely safe unless they're profitable.

I'd expect for things to continue shifting and changing for quite some time. Even the new 5/5 rule is going to eventually be litigated. The core problem remains that schools won't (a) sign employment contracts and/or (b) agree to collective bargaining. So unless the NCAA can score their Hail Mary and get a federal anti-trust exemption, this unstable situation will continue.
The NCAA sucks.
Good news is that softball is very popular at most schools, and the cuts will need to work their way through many other non-rev/Olympic sports before we're hit.
I have heard from several mid major, D2 and D3 parents that their teams are majority funded off donations from "The Giving Day" directed to the softball program. Not sure if it is true, but I have heard that "playing time" is being distributed with those checks as well.
