Annual Cost

Would you agree that the annual spend typically ranges from $8,000 to $15,000 to have a player on schedule to be looked at DI?

I believe if you play on the Angels, at least on the better teams, you're expected/told to take lessons from a small list of instructors, including Marty Tyson. That can get a little spendy.

That's interesting.

I assume they don't guarantee a % though?

And what if the player doesn't want to go to a low D1 that offers a 10% scholarship?

That's a leap. Do they put that in writing? What if you have crazy parents that scare the hell out of college coaches?

It depends what your including.

My P4 D1 played a national schedule - CA, GA, KS, CO, etc. for a few years, finishing up not to long ago. A dozen or more tournaments per year in summer and fall.

If I added team fees, lessons, team fees and travel, I was easily over $25k a year - likely closer to $35k a year.

But there are lots of D1 schools out there, and you don’t have to play coast to coast depending upon your goal and talent level. Western Illinois and Florida are both D1, but those are different recruiting paths

And, if your kid is national level talent, they’re going to get offers to play on teams for free with expenses and gear covered.

I agree it's north of $25k if you include travel. The one large expense you have control over is lessons; some families get pretty deep in the weeds about lesson frequency.

Dang im just happy I escaped those fees, mine went to a mid major and the last 3 years we only were into it maybe 6k for a team in central Indiana. That included my hotel fees and travel as well. I worked with my kids hitting but did do probably 15-20 lessons a year.i also know we were extremely lucky to be able to play on the cheap and kept the tournaments within 5-6 hour drives for tournaments. I feel all the years of playing we came out ahead or maybe even after scholarship was figured in.

Definitely different paths to satisfaction, no single path is correct. The issue for us was that when she was given an opportunity to play against the very best, it was difficult to turn down. While the amount of money spent was certainly meaningful, we had the means to make it happen without significantly impacting the family. Was it worth it? Not sure from a "softball sense" but she had great experiences.
