Lately I’ve been trying to help my neighbor look into different options for serious vision loss. He’s in his seventies and was diagnosed with advanced macular degeneration a few years ago. Over time his central vision has gotten worse, and now he mostly relies on magnifiers to read or see small things. Recently someone mentioned the CentraSight telescope implant, and it sounded promising, but we’re not sure who actually qualifies for something like that. Is it only for certain stages of the condition or certain age groups? I’d like to understand the basic requirements before suggesting that he talk to his doctor about it.
